this is a quick series of photos that i took this week during my lunch break. out of the 10 or 15 photos i took, these were the ones that i liked the best. i have had other suggestions of using blood on the table, plate, or even wine in the glass, but wanted a very clean look to the image. i personally thought the cleanliness of the image left it open to a wider interpretation. these are sized down from the print version so some details are lost, but you get the idea.
these were taken with a sony dsc-s70 of my h&k usp 9mm compact.
This is good. Very good. I think this is my favourite out of the series. I like the fact you left it simple and clean. If I wanted to be petty, I'd say it'd be nice to get the whole of the glass in frame too, but you've got a gun so I won't force the issue...
I think you're right about leaving the image clean and with out blood. You can have a broader interp of what you are seeing, and to me that makes the image even better. I can look at the image and build a storyline format in my mind of what might have occured at the dinner table. The fact that everything looks so nice, tidy, and the whiteness of the image in contrast to the blackness of the gun gives the picture a harsh feeling I think - which is something I really like. Reminds me of maybe of one of those mobster scenes in those old gangster movies. You know the ones where all the old fat guys with the odd voices are sitting around having dinner comparing gross stories of their kills and such maybe comparing scars, guns, or even getting into a shoot out. Excellent work man.
Definetly a "tight" composition. I like how everything slants in uniform...a subtle use of diagonals. I definetly agree that keeping other elements out of the photo was a smart idea. Had you added wine to the glass it would ruin the balance. Our focus goes straight to the gun because it's the sole source of contrast; it stands out (duh.) Appropriately, the next darkest (and most noticeable) element in the shot becomes the knife.
I love how you did the whole thing. that is such an awesome idea, and it's so unique. I'm going to add this to favorites because it's just that interesting.
That is so freakn kewl I can visualize what took place both before and after the image was taken. The people at the table and the conflict and outcome. The stark white of the background and neat place setting against the harsh darkness of the gun is both beautiful and vividly disturbing. Defiantly gets the point across.
